Between us we've spent over two decades working in financial services. We've seen what the industry gets right and what we think it quietly gets wrong.
We've heard plenty of firms say they put clients first. We wanted to build a firm where that's a promise, not a marketing tagline.
So that's what NextStep is. A deliberately small, independent firm. Two experienced planners, no sales targets, no shareholders to answer to, and a client-first service that actually means what it says.
Clients come to us at turning points: retirement approaching, a business sale, an inheritance, a life that's changed shape. Our job is to make the next step a confident one. It was ours too, and we haven't looked back.
We do the right thing, especially when it's commercially inconvenient. If the best advice is "don't hire us" that's the advice.
You get the truth, including when it's not what you hoped to hear. Comfortable lies are expensive.
Our fees are public, plain and tested against a simple standard: advice should leave you better off than if you'd never taken it.
Plain English, always. If you ever need a glossary to read something we've sent you, we've failed, and you should tell us.
